On this day in 1863, the Battle of Gettysburg in the American Civil War begins its second day. Union commander
General George Meade arrive at 3am after a 12 hour moonlight ride.
Later that day, Lee would make the fateful decision to attack the next day, believing that the Union line would
crumble and open the door to Washington.
