Richmond Virginia is Burned by the British
in the American Revolutionary War

On this day in 1781, the British, under the command of Benedict Arnold, invaded Virginia and burned public buildings and stores.

Despite General George Washinton's warning, the Virginia militia was caught unprepared and were powerless to stop it.
