American Bandstand Debuts
On this day in 1952, American Bandstand in its current form debuted on a local Philadelphia television station.
The original version of the show which began airing in late September featured short musical films which were the
precursor to modern day music videos.
The more current version began on October 7 and was hosted by Bob Horn until he was fired due to a drunken driving
accident. The show was temporarily hosted by the producer Tony Mammarella until being taken over by Dick Clark.
