John Lennon is Murdered

On this day in 1980, John Lennon was shot in the back four times as he was about to enter the reception area of the building where he lived. He and his wife Yoko Ono were arriving home from Record Plant Studio. He was rushed to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Lennon was best known as one of the founding members of The Beatles but was also known for his solo career and his work as a political activist.
