ON THIS DAY IN UNITED STATES HISTORY
March 11, 1861
The Constitution of the Confederate
States of America is Adopted
On this day in 1861, the Confederate States of American is adopted their Constitution. It was in many cases
taken word for word from the United States Constitution but in some areas differed by granting greater power to the
individual states and explicitly supporting slavery.
Another interesting difference is that although slavery was explicitly supported, international slave trade was
prohibited.
