June 17, 1885

The Statue of Liberty Arrives in New York Harbor

On this day in 1885, the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor on a French frigate. It had been broken down for shipment into 350 pieces.

Although the statue had arrived, the pedestal was not completed until months later. Construction of the statue on the pedestal was not completed until April 22, 1886.
