The Rubber Band is Patented in Australia
by Stephen Perry Bobstein

On this day in 1845, the Rubber Band was patented. Although it seems simple enough, the manufacturing process is actually quite complicated.

To make a Rubber Band, the rubber (still primarily natural rubber), is extruded into a long tube and then sliced across the width to create little bands.
