The United States Declares War on Great Britain

On this day in 1812, the United States declared war on Great Britain after being frustrated by British interference with American shipping due to it's embargo on trade with France.

The War of 1812 went on for more than two years and ended with the Treaty of Ghent on December 24, 1814.
