The Bath School Disaster Occurs
On this day in 1927, forty-five people were killed when several bombs explode at a school in Bath Township, Michigan. The perpetrator was a member of the school board who was upset about a property tax levied to fund construction of a school building. The explosion killed 45 and injured 58. Most of the victims were children between 7 and 12 years old. This was the deadliest act of mass murder in a school in U.S. history.
