April 21, 1836

Antonio López de Santa Anna's Forces are Defeated
by Sam Houston's Forces in the Battle of San Jacinto

On this day in 1836, the final battle in the Texas Revolution ends in a decisive victory of the Texians led by Sam Houston paving the way for independence from Mexico.

Texas would go on to join the United States in 1845 as the 28th state which lead to the Mexican-American War in 1846.
