Japan Officially Ends
On this day in 1952, the United States ended its occupation of Japan almost seven years after it surrendered
after World War II.
Although this day officially marked the end of the occupation, approximately 47,000 U.S. military personnel remain
in Japan today, they are there with permission of the Japanese government.
