The United States Coast Guard is Established
by an Act of the United States Congress
On this day in 1915, the United States Congress established the Coast Guard which is a military branch that has
low enforcement as one of its responsibilities.
It is further defined by Title 14 of the U.S. code as "...a military service and a branch of the armed forces of
the United States at all times. The Coast Guard shall be a service in the Department of Homeland Security, except
when operating as a service in the Navy."
