The Beatles Arrive at JFK Airport on their
First United States Tour
On this day in 1964, the Beatles (a Rock and Pop band originating in Liverpool, England) began their first U.S.
tour. Two days later they would perform on the Ed Sullivan show to an audience of 74 million viewers which was
about half the population of the United States at the time.
The Beatles are widely considered to be one of the most commercially successful bands of all time selling more than
a billion records by 1985.
