In the 1948 election, the Chicago Tribune was so sure that Truman would lose that they ran the headline "DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN" before the formal results were declared. Only after the newspapers hit the streets did they realize they were wrong, resulting in one of the most embarrasing moments in newspaper history.
