The Broad Street Riot Occurs in Boston
On this day in 1837, a company of English firefighters returning from a fire ran into an Irish funeral
procession on Broad Street. One of the firefighters, George Fay, began to harrass one of the members of the funeral
procession prompting a fight. The fight escalated when other fire engines in Boston were called.
