The Battle of the Bulge Begins
On this day in 1944, the Germans began the Ardennes Offensive on the Western front. Although it was officially
named Ardennes or the Ardennes-Alsace campaign by the U.S. Army, it is known to most Americans as the Battle of the
Bulge.
The object of the offensive for the German's was to split the British and American line, destroy four allied
armies, and force the Allies to negotiate a treay more favorable to the Axis.
The German's were able to achieve the element of surprise as they had hoped but ultimately the plan failed
leaving many experienced German unites depleted. It was however the bloodiest battle of World War II in which the
U.S. forces participated.

The Boston Tea Party Occurs
On this day in 1773, one of the most notable events in American history, known as the Boston Tea Party
occurred.
The Boston Tea Party was a response to the Tea Act passed by the British Parliament earlier that year.
